Director: Peyton Reed. 98 min. 2000. 35mm.
Part of the series 2 Good 2 B 4Gotten,

Peppy and energetic but never grating, this is a sports movie for people who never bothered to root.
Kirsten Dunst is at her most charming as the new captain of a squad on the brink of losing its title. Perpetually black-clad, smirking teammate Eliza Dushku helps her develop new routines based on mime acts, kabuki theater and Bollywood films. Will Dunst make things right with the team’s East Compton frenemies while also winning over the alterna-dude of her dreams?
You’ll discover spirit fingers you never knew you had with this spirited tale of creativity, friendship and butt lifts.

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion
May 30, 2013 -- 7:30 pm at 92YTribeca in New York, NY
Director: David Mirkin. 92 mins. 1997. 35mm.
Part of the series 2 Good 2 B 4Gotten, co-presented with Bonnie & Maude and xoJane.
Tickets: $12, Film Club Member: $8.
“You know, even though I had to wear that stupid back brace and you were kind of fat, we were still totally cutting edge.”
Having a ball in their Venice Beach apartment and honing their DIY style, lifelong friends Romy and Michele are totally fine with their boyfriend-free and barely-employed existence. That is until their high school reunion creeps up on them, forcing them to reassess not only the women they have become, but what their roles were back then. Thus they half-bake new personas—as the inventors of Post-Its, they are sure to gain the respect of their former classmates, right? Even funnier than you remember, Romy and Michele is made strong with Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino as the leads, supported by the contrastingly dark-humored, chain-smoking Janeane Garofalo.
Pre-screening we will salute DIY fashion and take a look at some of the other achievements of costume designer Mona May.

Slums of Beverly Hills
With actress Natasha Lyonne and director Tamara Jenkins in person for post-screening Q&A!
April 24, 2013 -- 7:30 pm at 92YTribeca in New York, NY
Director: Tamara Jenkins. 91 min. 1998. 35mm.
Part of the series 2 Good 2 B 4Gotten, co-presented with Bonnie & Maude and xoJane.
Tickets: $12, Film Club Member: $8.
Don't you hate it when your dad walks in while you're playing Hot Potato with your cousin's vibrator?
Vivian (Natasha Lyonne in her first starring role) is growing up and growing breasts in 1976. While her family moves through a series of flop hotels, she navigates a world of sexual and familial embarrassments, dodging her dodgy brothers and relishing the attention of her skeevy neighbor. Learning about love, halter tops and the pleasures of self-discovery from her older, more experienced cousin Rita (Marisa Tomei), the tough but still wide-eyed Vivian is a role model for teen girls of any decade.
For a movie which shows more than half its stars in their underwear, Tamara Jenkins’ semi-autobiographical film is a touching, earnest and awkwardly funny look at what it means to be a young woman in a man’s world.

"How do I look?" "Like a woman about to go forth in sin."
Adolescence is a bitch—especially when you're 15, you've lived in 18 different towns and your mother is the textbook definition of "eccentric." Winona Ryder stars as the precocious Charlotte Flax, whose idea of rebelliousness is embracing Catholicism in the face of her irreverent, Jewish mother. Ryder may get the most cutting one-liners, but the heart of the film is Cher as Mrs. Flax. Amid dealing with the JFK assassination and Mrs. Flax's new boyfriend (Bob Hoskins), Charlotte tries to figure out what God has in store for her—whether it's losing her virginity to the cute guy up the road, understanding the root of her mother's flamboyance or both.
A teensy Christina Ricci makes her film debut as Charlotte's younger sister Kate. With a nostalgic '60s soundtrack featuring Lesley Gore, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles and, of course, Cher herself. Now who wants a marshmallow kebab?

Through séances and red rover, brown cows and Tony Orlando & Dawn on the radio, their bonds of friendship are tested. Apple-cheeked, fresh-faced stars Christina Ricci, Thora Birch and Gaby Hoffmann, plus 90’s hunk Devon Sawa prove that growing up is hard.
